My piece is inspired by Hiram Powers’ bust of Anna B Sinton. When I looked at the bust of Anna I immediately fell in love with how beautiful she looked; the way her hair was pinned, the smoothness of her skin and the whiteness of the piece. I had decided to read about the creation of the bust and found that it was inspired by the appearance of the ideal Roman woman. I had decided that I was going to use this piece as my inspiration for my ARC project. When I first started, I had planned on doing a digital painting of my boyfriend with a style that made him look like a porcelain bust, but after starting to paint it, I found that I could not recreate the smooth texture I fell in love with. So I cast away that idea and decided to search the internet for more inspiration. I came across pictures of a woman who was painted like a statue and decided I would paint my body like hers and spray my hair white and photograph myself. I ventured out and bought the necessary materials to recreate the photo. In order to capture the photo without help while modeling, I used a timer which made it easy to capture all the shots I needed. I finished the piece by taking the picture into photoshop to remove blemishes and make the background the same color as the original. In my photo I tried to do what Hiram did with his piece. I portrayed my personality through my facial expressions and makeup just like the woman in the original piece. Overall, I feel that I successfully recreated Powers’ bust in my own imaginative way.
